Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Package

What is the Irritable Bowel Syndrome Package?

The Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Package uses a systematic approach to identify the specific foods or food components that contribute to your digestive symptoms. I use a specially designed Time-Food-Time-Symptom (TFTS) Journal to help me identify consistent patterns between what you eat and how you feel. These insights form the basis for my recommendations as to which foods to reduce (or eliminate) to help manage your symptoms effectively.

Package Pricing: The IBS Package offers savings compared with booking the same services as individual Clinical Nutrition Appointments. The introduction to the Time-Food-Time-Symptom Journal session is billed at the standard clinical rate, while the second and third clinical reviews and long-term strategy sessions are offered at a reduced rate.

What is the Structure of Services in the IBS Package?

The IBS Package is made up of four separate services to identify which foods or food components contribute to your digestive symptoms and for me to make recommendations.

1. Introduction to the Time-Food-Time-Symptom (TFTS) Journal: This session provides an introduction to the Time-Food-Time-Symptom Journal, including how to collect information accurately, customize the TFTS Journal for your individual IBS symptoms, and verify the process after collecting data for 3 days.

2. First Clinical Review: We will review the first three weeks of your journal data. I will identify patterns and provide specific recommendations on which foods or beverages to limit or avoid, explaining the clinical reasoning behind each suggestion. I will provide instructions for continuing to collect data during the following 2 weeks using the Time Food Time Symptom Journal.

3. Second Clinical Review: After collecting an additional two weeks of data, I will review the Time Food Time Symptom Journal, make recommendations of additional foods or beverages to limit or avoid based on symptom patterns, and refine the dietary strategy to identify any secondary triggers.

4. Final Review & Lifestyle Strategy: In the final phase, we review the last set of data from the Time Food Time Symptom Journal, make recommendations of additional foods or beverages to limit or avoid based on symptom patterns, as well as additional dietary and lifestyle changes to help minimize IBS symptoms and manage your IBS long-term.

How Much Does the IBS Package Cost?

The cost of the IBS Package is $510 (GST exempt), and to make submitting to extended benefits easy, receipts are broken down into the four individual services:

  • Introduction to the Time-Food-Time-Symptom (TFTS) Journal ($150)
  • First Clinical Review ($120)
  • Second Clinical Review ($120)
  • Final Review & Lifestyle Strategy ($120)

Questions and Answers

Q: I was told that I have IBS. How do I know if I should take this package or the low FODMAP Package?

A: The Low FODMAP Diet Package is designed for people to follow a FODMAP diet, whereas this package is for those who really don’t know which foods, or food components, are causing their symptoms and need to find out.

Questions and Answers (cont’d)

Q: I was told that I have IBS, but my doctor didn’t rule out whether it could be celiac. Can you help?

A: Yes, I can provide you with a Lab Test Request Form so you can get the IgA tTG blood test requisitioned. This test screens for celiac disease, and you must be eating gluten for at least 2 weeks before you have the test.

Q: I know I react to dairy products and maybe a few other things. Will this package help me?

A: I would recommend starting with an Initial Consultation so we can meet to discuss which foods bother you, and I can give you a Lab Test Request Form to rule out lactose intolerance. Once I know which foods are the issue, I will know whether this package (the IBS Package) or the Low-FODMAP one is a better fit for your needs.
