Add-On Nutrition Sessions

When bundled with a package, these specialized nutrition education sessions are available at a lower rate ($100) than when taken as a stand-alone Clinical Nutrition Appointment ($150).

Single-session add-on nutrition sessions are provided immediately following the Nutrition Education Session to teach your Meal Plan.

Two-session add-on nutrition sessions (same cost) are provided in two parts; the first is taught at the end of the Nutrition Education Session to teach your Meal Plan, and the second is taught at the end of your first follow-up visit.

Each add-on nutrition teaching comes with a detailed, multi-page handout to serve as an additional reference alongside the handouts that come with your individual Meal Plan.

Acid Reflux / Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) Add-On

When it occurs: At the end of your Meal Plan Nutrition Education Session.

What’s covered: Learn about the different types of GERD, diverse symptoms beyond classic “heartburn,” and specific trigger foods (and the mechanics of why they make symptoms worse). Covers GERD treatment pros and cons, targeted lifestyle modifications, and actionable dietary recommendations.

Anti-Inflammatory Protocol (AIP)

When it occurs: Delivered in two targeted parts:

Part 1 (taught at the end of the Meal Plan Nutrition Education Session): Introduction to an Anti-Inflammatory Protocol (AIP), a structured dietary protocol used in some autoimmune conditions to help identify foods that may contribute to symptoms.

Part 2 (taught at the end of the first follow-up visit): Key foods to avoid or limit and why when following an Anti-Inflammatory Protocol (AIP).

Gout Add-On

When it occurs: At the end of your Meal Plan Nutrition Education Session.

What’s covered: Learn what gout is and how this form of arthritis is directly affected by your diet. Includes three clear lists: (1) specific foods to avoid, (2) foods to limit to one serving per day, and (3) foods that do not need to be limited, along with practical dietary tips for vegetarians with gout.

Hiatal (Hiatus) Hernia Add-On

When it occurs: At the end of your Meal Plan Nutrition Education Session.

What’s covered: An overview of hiatal hernias, including the two main types, underlying causes, symptoms, treatments, and what a strangulated hernia is. Covers practical dietary and lifestyle changes to reduce symptoms alongside clear recommendations.

Constipation & Hemorrhoid Add-On

When it occurs: Delivered in two targeted parts:

Part 1 (taught at the end of Meal Plan Nutrition Education Session): Explains constipation beyond common misconceptions and looks at it as a functional disorder. Focuses on both types of fiber (beyond simple “roughage”), provides specific food examples for each, and outlines exact daily targets.

Part 2 (taught at the end of the first follow-up visit): Explains what hemorrhoids are, how common they are, the different types/grades, treatment options, duration, and two concrete strategies to reduce your risk of developing them.

Kidney Stones (oxalate or uric acid type)

When it occurs: At the end of your Meal Plan Nutrition Education Session, and specific to your particular type of kidney stone.

Calcium-Oxalate Stones: Explains stone formation, debunks common dietary misconceptions, and outlines nutritional strategies to reduce recurrence.

OR

Uric Acid Stones: Explains causes and stone formation, outlines specific preventative dietary strategies to reduce stone formation, and provides handy lists of foods to avoid, limit, and enjoy freely.

Increasing Iron Status from Food (for iron-deficient anemia)

When it occurs: Delivered in two targeted parts:

Part 1 (taught at the end of Meal Plan Nutrition Education Session): Practical strategies to optimize and improve iron absorption from food.

Part 2 (taught at the end of the first follow-up visit): How to select foods and structure your meals to minimize interference from competing foods and nutrients.

Key Nutrients for Thyroid Health

Note: The material in this add-on nutrition session is the same as the fourth service in the Hypothyroid Management Package. This add-on is designed for clients taking different Routine Health packages that include follow-up visits and who also want this specialized education.

When it occurs: At the end of your Meal Plan Nutrition Education Session.

What’s covered: Key micronutrients required to convert inactive thyroid hormone (free T4) into active thyroid hormone (free T3). Includes guidance on optimal supplement dosages, timing relative to medications/supplements, and the true impact of foods like goitrogens and gluten

Migraine Add-On

When it occurs: Delivered in two targeted parts to support current understanding to reduce occurrence of migraine:

Part 1 (taught at the end of the Meal Plan Nutrition Education Session): Focus is on reducing tyramine, a breakdown product of the amino acid tyrosine.

Part 2 (taught at the end of the first follow-up visit): Overview of an Anti-Inflammatory Protocol (AIP) and key foods to avoid or limit, including the rationale for these recommendations and guidance on implementation.

Other Add-on Nutrition Sessions

In addition to the topics above, targeted add-on education is available for less common conditions, including Early Chronic Kidney Disease, Functional Dyspepsia, and Macular Degeneration.

Questions and Answers

Q: I want to lose some weight and lower my blood sugar, but also have low iron. Which package should I choose?

A: I’d recommend booking the Comprehensive Dietary Package with the Increasing Iron Status from Food add-on. This will give you an individual Meal Plan to achieve a healthy weight along with targeted education on maximizing iron intake and timing meals to prevent absorption issues.


Q: I am going into menopause, but am also having problems with hypothyroidism. Which package should I choose?

A: I would recommend taking the Menopause Management Package and adding the Key Nutrients for Thyroid Health session. This will provide you with a full assessment, custom Meal Plan, nutrition education and implementation coaching, and follow-up support, plus focused instruction on optimizing conversion of inactive thyroid hormone (free T4) to active thyroid hormone (free T3).


Q: I have both low iron and constipation and am worried about getting more constipated taking iron supplements. What do you recommend?

A: I’d recommend taking an Initial Consultation first. We’ll meet to review your needs and your iron lab results, and from there I can recommend the best package and help you choose the right add-on session.
