Both Sides of the Clinical Desk

I’ve been in private practice for 18 years, and am known for being a bit “nerdy” about my love of reading the current scientific literature. This foundation was laid during my undergraduate degree in Dietetics and Human Nutrition at McGill University, and solidified during my post-graduate degree in Human Nutrition. My over 200 referenced articles posted under the Food for Thought tab stand as testimony that my drive to consult the academic literature continues.
In 2017, reading the academic literature led me to find a framework to address my own health challenges of having developed obesity, severe hypertension, and type 2 diabetes. Between March 2017 and March 2019, I was able to resolve my own health issues using an evidence-based approach, and that experience provided me with additional tools with which to support my clients.
Metabolic health was only one part of my own complex health puzzle.
In 2018, I was diagnosed with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) by the Immunologist who headed the department of Allergy and Immunology at a local teaching hospital. I was very fortunate to have this Professor point me to some excellent academic resources, which enabled me to read as much as I could about what was known about the disorder at the time. While he has since retired, I continue to stay abreast of the literature on this topic and the related conditions of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and Postural Orthostatic Hypotension (POTS). You can learn about the services I provide for hEDS, MCAS, and POTS.
My own clinical “adventures” weren’t yet over. After navigating the symptoms of hypothyroidism for over a decade before finally being diagnosed, I have become knowledgeable about the challenges that come along with it. This enables me to provide empathetic care while helping my clients navigate their own diagnosis and treatment. Learn about the Hypothyroid Management Package that I offer.
Understanding health challenges from both sides of the clinical desk drives me to find evidence-based solutions that work for my clients’ needs.
My first passion is the prevention and sustainable remission of type 2 diabetes. I am dedicated to advocating for my clients to obtain the necessary testing to assess hyperinsulinemia and early signs of pre-diabetes, ensuring they have the data needed to take action to prevent a diagnosis.
I am also passionate about advocating for clients who have symptoms consistent with hypothyroidism or subclinical hypothyroidism to obtain adequate testing.
For those who have already navigated the medical system and have received (or are in the process of receiving) a diagnosis of the complex “trifecta” of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), I provide specialized dietary support to help manage these conditions through targeted medical nutrition therapy.
I look forward to supporting your nutrition needs.

Media & Speaking
My mission has always been to bridge the gap between academic research and its application in the real world. Over the years, I have been invited to share my perspective on a dietary approach to the management of chronic diseases, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypertension (high blood pressure), and I have done so from “both sides of the clinical desk” across numerous podcasts and virtual summits. I also recently presented at the University of Toronto and Diabetes Canada about the safety and efficacy of the therapeutic use of low-carbohydrate and ketogenic diets. To hear these conversations and see my recent academic presentations, visit the Media & Speaking gallery.
