Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Package

What is the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Package?

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Package is specifically designed for individuals newly diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) or Crohn’s disease. The focus of this package is on achieving rapid symptom reduction through evidence-based dietary strategies, followed by a systematic reintroduction of foods to minimize the risk of flare-ups.

Package Pricing: The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Package offers savings compared with booking the same services as individual Clinical Nutrition Appointments. The first session, which is the introduction to a low-residue diet, is billed at the standard clinical rate, while the initial, reintroduction, and liberalization stages of a low-FODMAP diet are offered at a reduced rate.

What is the Structure of Services in the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Package?

The IBD Package is made up of four separate services:

1. Introduction to IBD & Low-Residue Diet Implementation: This initial session provides an introduction to the three-stage clinical approach and an overview of IBD and step-by-step coaching on implementing a Low-Residue Diet over three weeks to minimize acute symptoms and allow the digestive tract to rest.

2. Initial Stage of the Low FODMAP Protocol: As symptoms stabilize, I will introduce the initial stage of a Low FODMAP protocol and provide comprehensive coaching on which foods to avoid and which can be safely consumed within each category, including proteins, dairy, vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, nuts, sweeteners, and condiments. I will also teach you how to gradually re-introduce higher-residue foods.

3. Intermediate Reintroduction Stage: This phase focuses on the structured reintroduction of specific FODMAP groups. You will receive detailed instructions on how and when to reintroduce these foods, including the precise amounts required to establish your tolerance in each category, while gradually increasing your fiber intake.

4. Liberalization and Long-Term Health: In the final phase, we personalize your diet by reincorporating FODMAP foods that do not trigger symptoms. We also cover essential “Low FODMAP and Beyond” nutrition education, highlighting non-FODMAP factors that may impact your overall health.

How Much Does the IBD Package Cost?

The cost of the IBD Package is $510 (GST exempt), and to make submitting to extended benefits easy, receipts are broken down into the four individual services:

  • Introduction to IBD & Low-Residue Diet Implementation ($150)
  • Initial Stage of the Low FODMAP Protocol ($120)
  • Intermediate Reintroduction Stage ($120)
  • Liberalization and Long-Term Health ($120)

Questions and Answers

Q: I was just diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, and I am wondering if you can help me get my symptoms under control?

A: Yes, the focus of the first part of the package is to achieve a reduction in symptoms as quickly as possible.

Q: I was diagnosed recently with Ulcerative Colitis and can’t really get very far from a bathroom. I am hoping a change in how I eat will help.

A: In Ulcerative Colitis, symptoms vary from person to person, but I will find out which foods you are currently eating and help you minimize those that may be making things worse.

Q: Once you help me get my symptoms under control, will I ever be able to eat a reasonably normal diet?

A: It really depends on the severity of your condition. Most people feel much better once the initial symptoms settle down, transition well through the second stage of the diet, and learn which foods they need to avoid. In some cases, despite people’s best efforts, biologics are needed. Everyone is different.
